2019 Halal Mandatory: What Indonesian Entrepreneurs Need to Prepare – By Bagaskara. Following the Law number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance and the establishment of a new halal organizing agency, the Indonesian Ulama Council and the Ministry of Religious Affairs order the entrepreneurs and companies to register their products for halal certification.

Why is halal product certification mandatory?

In Indonesian context, halal products and services are mandatory due to the fact that this country is a home for the biggest Muslim population in the world. The Islamic Law which must be obeyed by Muslims has carefully governed what kinds of products that can be consumed as well as the products that are banned from eating or using. For that reason, the products with official halal label and certificate are unquestionable a must for Muslims living in Indonesia.

Meski begitu, sanksi bagi pengusaha yang mengabaikan kewajiban sertifikasi halal tetap dilaksanakan. Tidak ada perubahan mengenai hal ini walaupun ada usulan hukuman pidana. Formula sanksi tetap mengacu pada Undang Nomor 33 Tahun 2014 Tentang Jaminan Produk Halal.
